5 Charged with Meth Possession

Police took five Florida residents into custody on Aug. 8 for alleged methamphetamine possession. The arrests were carried out by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, a search warrant was served at a residence in New Port Richey. During a subsequent raid, officers allegedly discovered 12 grams of methamphetamine, opiates, various guns, Nazi propaganda, hundreds of pages of bank accounts and other personal identification details, credits cards, insurance cards, ID cards and vehicle titles. A stolen vehicle was also found on the property.

A 47-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man, a 31-year-old man, a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were taken into custody at the scene. They have been charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of opiates, possession of drug paraphernalia, felon in charge of a firearm or ammo and possession of a firearm that has an altered serial number. The investigation is ongoing.

Individuals convicted of drug possession or other drug charges can face harsh penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and heavy fines. However, all defendants have the right to fight drug charges in court with the help of an attorney. Legal counsel could examine the evidence in the case for details that could be used in the defendant’s favor. For example, authorities may not have followed proper protocol when searching a defendant’s property, which could lead to the case being dismissed. In cases where the evidence is strong, an attorney could negotiate a plea deal that allows the defendant to plead guilty to reduced charges.
