Rapper Chief Keef Charged with DUI in Florida
April 21, 2017
On April 9, rapper Chief Keef was arrested for impaired driving in Florida, according to multiple media sources. The incident took place in Miami Beach.
Apparently, Keef, age 21, was driving his green Lamborghini through a neighborhood when his passenger exited the car in slow traffic and walked over to another vehicle. Local police officers observed the incident and were suspicious that a drug deal was taking place. They pulled over the drivers of both vehicles and conducted a search. A cup of sizzurp was allegedly found in Keef’s car. His passenger reportedly had a baggie of suspected marijuana in his possession.
According to authorities, Keef had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his words. He allegedly told officers that they would find marijuana in his urine and that he had a medical marijuana card. He was charged with DUI. The rapper, whose real name is Keith Cozart, was also arrested in January in connection with the assault of a record producer.
Individuals convicted of drunk driving risk harsh consequences, including incarceration, fines and the loss or restriction of driving privileges. However, a criminal defense attorney could use several defense strategies to help clients fight DUI charges and protect their future. For example, an attorney may find that the traffic stop that led to the arrest was conducted without the requisite reasonable suspicion on the part of authorities, which could lead to the charges being dropped. Legal counsel could also challenge the manner in which field sobriety tests were conducted as well as the calibration of the Breathalyzer that was used.
